House Painters in Fairfax, DE

Fairfax is one of the earliest developments in Brandywine Hundred, built out from the 1940s along the west side of Concord Pike. It predates most of the suburb around it, and the difference in age shows in the details.

The houses are smaller and more traditionally built than the 1960s stock further north: capes and modest colonials in brick and frame, with wood windows, real shutters and simple trim. Being the oldest suburban stock in the area, it is also the stock where original materials are most often still in place.

What gets asked for in Fairfax

What we see on Fairfax houses

  • Original 1940s joinery still in service

Windows, sills, doors and shutters that are eighty years old are common here. They are usually worth repairing rather than replacing, but they need cutting back to sound wood and priming rather than another coat over soft wood.

  • Cape dormers and low eaves

Cape Cod roofs bring dormer cheeks and eaves down close to the weather. They are the surfaces that fail first and the ones least likely to have been reached during any previous repaint.

  • Additions of several different ages

Houses this old in a desirable area have usually gained a room, a porch or a garage at some point. Each addition is a different substrate with a different exposure and often needs a different approach from the original house.

  • Plaster interiors in the oldest houses

The earliest Fairfax houses have plaster rather than board. Settlement cracks return along the same lines unless they are opened up and filled properly, and plaster primes differently from drywall.

Why customers pick us

What stands behind the work is the Delaware license, the insurance, and a local owner-operated company that quotes every job from a real look at the building. Read what customers wrote on Google, or read how the business started.
